Short Sighted Cinema is a new hub for short film in London. Our vision is to raise the profile of short film by providing a platform through which filmmakers, programmers, cinephiles and critics can come together in an engaging creative environment. Our website, which we are soon launching, will be the backbone of our organization featuring content from an array of creative contributors.
What we’re looking for: We need critics capable of articulate reviews of the latest short films, journalists to review exciting London-based film events, interviewers to grill upcoming filmmakers, writers to discuss scripts and filmmakers to tell us their stories of trial and triumph. We are looking for one-off articles/reviews as well as regular contributors.
What’s in it for you? Whether regular or not, your writing will be featured on our website and across our social media networks. You’ll have the freedom to write what you want, when you want and have the option of being sent on exciting assignments and events. Most of all, you’ll be welcomed into our organisation, become part of our team and social scene – with regular pub trips for everyone involved and plenty of short-film nights!

Beacons Festival, the cutting-edge music and arts event taking place in the heart of the Yorkshire countryside near Skipton, is seeking creative proposals from artists for work, workshops, performances and video pieces to appear at this years’ event from 16 – 18 August 2013.
Beacons is a forward-thinking festival brought to you by a collective of tastemakers who, for years, have been bringing the best music to reputable Northern venues. But Beacons is not just about the music! Every year we feature the work of an exciting range of artists from across the North and beyond.
There’s just one week left to submit proposals to this year’s call, closing midnight Sunday 28th April. Be it installation, sculpture, performance piece, spoken word, creative workshop or land art – we invite proposals for anything that has the potential to delight festival goers of all ages through all of their senses.
This year we also have a special call for filmmakers, animators and motion graphic designers to submit or create mind-blowing visuals for projection around the Beacons site. If you’re a filmmaker, animator or video artist this is a fantastic opportunity to get your work seen on a grand scale.
This year our selection panel will be giving particular precedence to projects that fall within one of the arts programme themes:
• Frontiers of the Future: projects that utilise or explore new technology, scientific concepts, and visions of the future!
• Interactivity: we’re looking for work that engages with and involves our festival-goers.
• Site-specificity: pieces that engage with and explore the festival environment, physically, socially, geographically and historically.
Support for artists ranges from festival tickets and travel, to small bursaries to realise your ideas and towards production costs. Beacons 2013 will provide a platform to showcase your work to over 6000 revellers!
You can find out more about the website and download an application form here. All proposals should be submitted via email to art@greetingsfrombeacons.com
The deadline for submissions is midnight on Sunday 28th April. Successful applicants will be informed in the first week of June.
