The below Ted Talk is well worth a listen ;-)) Having the confidence.. or indeed blind faith that your art matters, is the difference from you trying or not, from ending your life always saying ‘what if’ or ‘if only’ I don’t want that for me or you!! Don’t let the half finished novel hide in the drawer (yes I have two of those too!)
As Seth Godin says ‘Ship It! It will never be perfect’.
Da Vinci ‘Art is never finished, only abandoned”
I am terrified as I know I have the track Londontown finished but I have to get it out the door, press marketing and being ready for people to not like it or just ignore it. The no’s, the criticism, the apathy.. but this hurdle to kicking our art out the door.. we all have to overcome it.
I know nothing about promoting a dance tune.. so Ryan James Lock is going to coach me through the process and part one will start tomorrow night. I will get it uploaded by this weekend. He is going to make me take action… as opposed to my lack of action which (though yes I am super busy) part of my apathy is based in fear.
So as I find strength and courage and the energy to move my remixed song out of the door, feel free to get inspired by my stumblings đ Ryan is going to coach us to keep going.
Is your school or workplace divided into “creatives” versus practical people? Yet surely, David Kelley suggests, creativity is not the domain of only a chosen few. Telling stories from his legendary design career and his own life, he offers ways to build the confidence to create… (From The Design Studio session at TED2012, guest-curated by Chee Pearlman and David Rockwell.)
