The Opportunity
Write to Play is an exciting new initiative to cultivate and promote Deaf and disabled writers. Working with some of the best new writing venues in the UK, we will provide top quality tutoring alongside live performance opportunities so that five fantastic writers go on to develop a full-length play. The successful writers will have all access requirements met and get a fee of £1700 for their participation which will be paid in installments.

Five day tutoring course in the art of theatre writing
Masterclasses
Six half day classes from leading experts working in the industry
Miniatures
Three platforms to have short pieces performed in front of an audience, working with professional actors and directors
Mentors
One mentor to help, guide and dramaturgically support
Rehearsed Readings
One showcase of a full length play that has been developed over the course of the year
The Proposal
We want three things from you as part of your application:
1. In under 400 words tell us a little bit about yourself and why this opportunity interests you
2. Send us up to a twenty page sample of a play that you have written
3. Finally, here’s a scenario:
A woman is sitting on a National Rail train during London rush hour. As she sits she receives a phone call. Her only response is ‘Ok, I’ll get off at the next stop’. The train arrives at the next station. The woman gets off.
Using the above situation write a script that doesn’t exceed five pages in length.
The Criteria
The artist must be available for all of the dates that make up the Write to Play programme.
The artist must have some experience of new writing and be able to demonstrate this in the application and interview process.
