Post 8 of Dream, create and make money in the arts – My Series on becoming a Successful Creative
It’s decision and commitment time.
We have got here to Post eight with some event ideas and now we are looking at deadlines.
But none of it is worth anything without us making a simple but hard decision today that we will not cease from mental fight and we will ignore all obstacles, of our own and others making, our inner critic, our outer critics, the moaning we have not got the time, the skills, the talent, the brilliance, the patience, the understanding, the know-how on how to pull this whole thing off.
I am here to guide you the rest of the way, a relatively safe pair of hands given I have personally fallen in most of the potholes myself already.
Each new venture we do challenges us, makes us scared and in overcoming it, we walk taller and we change the world around us. We give our families and communities hope, make them see they too have a voice if they choose to use it, make us a player in the creative world of someone who finishes and exhibits.. and yep maybe even make some money too 😉
So commit today to be the tide that will find a way to sweep objections away. Today decide to be that tide.
13 minute task of the day
1) First sing along to the second verse of Jerusalem, this unofficial National Anthem that all Brits love to try and sing (there is a high note we like to get when we are drunk) has some fairly gumptious lyrics.
(If you absolutely hate Jerusalem then replace it with an uplifting song you prefer such as the ones I popped in below at the bottom of the thread. or feel free to suggest your own. Other suggestions here However have a go at Jerusalem at least once, it’s just part of the second verse!)
Blake’s poem – Jerusalem, second verse
Bring me my Bow of burning gold;
Bring me my Arrows of desire:
Bring me my Spear: O clouds unfold!
Bring me my Chariot of fire!
I will not cease from Mental Fight,
Nor shall my Sword sleep in my hand:…..
As per my just issued Podcast the lyrics of Jerusalem are to be used to fire us up. Ignore the jingoism, the fact you may be from France, the religious aspect if you choose, just sing aloud as loud as you want just to the second verse. You can wave any flag you choose from Brazil to one you make with your own name on it and the deadline written on the other side.
Verse 2 1.19
2) Write down your deadline and what you will do on that date. It could be submit a painting to the local gallery or the Royal Academy, put on your new musical or play, get the first draft of your novel out of the door to an agent, upload your next finished song onto iTunes or press send on your film competition submission.
Don’t write the minutiae but only this
“ On …… (this date)….. I ……..(hand in/submit/upload)………………… the best work I can do”
3) Write it down LARGE
Paint it across the wall
Engrave in gold letters on a card and frame it
Tattoo or maybe better, henna it on your thigh
Make 3 copies of your goal on laminated card and pop in your wallet, on your bedside and pop on the door opposite your toilet.
Put it in a place you may pray, meditate or chant.
Ignore all feelings of fear and panic and focus on how you will feel when you do this thing on the day you have chosen.
4) Put it where you can see it first thing in the morning and look at it last thing at night also.
5)Every day this week sing your preferred song whilst looking at your determination. Wave a flag if you’d like.
Any other great song suggestions that work for you let me know.
