Post 12 of Dream, create and make money in the arts – My Series on becoming a Successful Creative
Vision Board it.. This is the second part of 3 posts on Vision Boards.
So we have a basic vision board (Part One of building a Vision Board is here)
Now what?
1) Re read the whole vision board all – there will be places where you need to add , sections where you think ‘I know nothing about…’
Don’t panic ‘all skills can be learned’ (Or hired re Elance!)
Also look at sections where you can start to see synergies and synchronicities popping up.
2) Most important put it up somewhere where you can see it. You need to see it daily
3)- Every day spend a few minutes every day just sitting in front of the vision board, let your mind wander and almost daydream about it.
As you sit in front of it try the daily affirmations that Liz Ranken talks about before
Write down a positive affirmation eg “I create to fulfill my creative potential for myself and humanity “
Liz recommends the book The Power of Your Subconscious Mind
and she says to write the affirmations down 25 times first, (yep it is a pain but Liz has tested this and says her work is always better by doing this.)
4) -Some people like to add further to this vision board by adding images, graphics, newspaper images. I suggest you don’t get bogged down but collect images as you find them and add to them or pop them in a collage next to it.
5) -Decorate it further with gold stars, circle areas of importance and give yourself extra stars for completing and working on sections.
6) -Look at the general subject areas, add where you have missed out such as…
You may have missed out major & sub deadlines.
Any niches of interest in terms of websites/ communities/ groups you may want to contact/be involved with? Just jot down to research if you can’t think
Any groups or communities that will appreciate your stuff even if a sidestep along? eg Are you Polish/Iranian so reach out to your local communites and maybe overseas too?
Doing a piece on a subject such as euthanasia so local help groups/online communities/ charities etc?
Using that creative big brain of yours in this way will start pointing yourself in the next step.
Have a great weekend, and try to carve out time to at least do your Vision Board, even if you don’t do this step 2 something inside will have changed, your thoughts and a plan is starting to emerge.
Part 3 of the Vision board process will be posted Monday.
About this series – Being a Successful Creative – The Business of Creativity
This is a series of daily blogs for you on how to dream up, build, market and sell a creative event, gig, festival, book launch, cabaret night, exhibition of rude plastic cupcakes or whatever creatively inspires you. It is time to create and put on that play about your family, a series of drawings about hedgehogs, the album you have talked about making or the short film you always wanted to write and make.
