RSA Films. I love this video (click on the link) for it’s strong imagery, particularly the shotgun with the drag queen shots. It reminded me in some ways of a play I saw a few years ago by Gerald Thomas, the amazing theatre and opera director. ‘Throats’ was so out there I had to see it twice to try and get an understanding, it was both brilliant but also in places just plain weird as you can see in the video below 😉 (his blog is here)
‘The idea is always to outdo oneself, it’s a one-man race but there is a shadow trying to overtake that main body. I’m not in competition with anybody but I’m in competition with my own past repertoire. Like Marcel Duchamp I don’t like solutions but I like problems… I have found some great talent here, and now I have the company of my dreams.” Gerald Thomas
I did an amazing podcast interview with Chris Channing last week which I will get posted up next week. Another incredible visionary who trained at Le Coq, has curated the Theatre of the Ansurd for a decade and is Master of Cermonies at the Doge;s Masked Ball in Venice. His Youtube Channel shows some of his more ‘conventional work’ !!
On my creativity I am finding the struggle to get my Novel 3 completed, I have done 2000 words today so I am on 55049 words. Hitting the NanoWriMo deadline of 50k was easy as I was with many others all striving to do the same thing. Now I feel I am home alone and yet to get to the end of this first draft.
I am beyond questions of ‘is it any good? and ‘Why have I gone so dark?’ to ‘how many words will it take to get to the end of this *********** thing’ (add expletives as appropriate). I do know that I only had a beginning moment, a mid idea and a glimpse of the end, and I am currently still loitering around the midpoint. I think at present I can’t bear it if indeed I have another 55k words to write. However I know it will take as long as it (the novel) decides it will take and so I am clinging on desperately to my 1667 word a day Habit from Nano as the daily discipline is keeping me sane!
